Proof-of-Concept Attack Exploits GitHub Copilot to Exfiltrate Code and Secrets

GitHub Copilot is a widely used AI coding assistant designed to improve developer productivity by suggesting code snippets in real time. While GitHub has implemented strong defenses to protect Copilot from malicious exploits, a recent proof-of-concept attack reveals that it is possible to creatively extract code and secrets through this AI assistant. This proof-of-concept (PoC) showcases a novel exfiltration technique that leverages Copilot’s integration with code environments.

The attack underscores emerging risks associated with AI-powered development tools, which could inadvertently become vectors for data leaks or insider threats.
