OpenAI’s Codex, the AI software engineering assistant, was officially released on the 6th. After a research preview in May, Codex has improved significantly, now allowing users to utilize it through various platforms like editors, terminals, and cloud environments. The integration of Slack enables users to request tasks directly from Codex within their team’s channels. Additionally, developers can embed the Codex agent into their preferred workflows using the SDK, which is currently available in TypeScript. OpenAI plans to support more programming languages in the future.
The management tools include features such as environment control, monitoring, and analytical dashboards, providing greater visibility and control for ChatGPT administrators, especially in large-scale environments. Administrators can modify the Codex cloud environment and monitor the history of Codex’s activities. This launch also includes integration with GitHub actions for easy incorporation into CI/CD pipelines. The newly added Slack integration and Codex SDK became available to various subscription tiers, while the new admin features are accessible for business and enterprise accounts. Codex’s cloud work will begin being billed starting the 20th, with detailed pricing available on OpenAI’s official page.
