The Tenable report, created in collaboration with the Cloud Security Alliance, reveals that organizations are adopting cloud and AI technologies at an alarming rate without adequately addressing security concerns. A survey of 1,025 IT and security professionals discovered that 82% work in hybrid environments, while a significant number are actively using or piloting AI solutions. Despite this embrace of new technology, many organizations lack the necessary cybersecurity frameworks to protect their diverse attack surfaces. This oversight leads to heightened risks of preventable security breaches.
One of the report’s critical findings is the central role of identity security in cloud breaches. Respondents expressed that insecure identities and risky permissions are their foremost security threats. Furthermore, basic identity and access management practices are insufficient to combat the complexities of modern security threats. Organizations must shift from reactive to proactive security measures, focusing on integrating threads of identity management with cloud security to shield themselves from potential risks effectively.
Moreover, as 89% of surveyed organizations either utilize AI or are in the process of piloting it, there is a worrisome trend of insufficient security around these advanced systems. Notably, 34% report experiencing an AI-related breach. This calls for a reassessment of security priorities, urging organizations to address traditional cybersecurity challenges while concurrently managing the emerging risks associated with AI technologies. This report serves as a vital reminder that as technology evolves, so too must our approaches to securing it.
