Microsoft will lower the price of M365 Copilot for small businesses globally beginning December 1. The new fee of $21 per user per month applies to all M365 business plan customers, while maintaining existing pricing structures. The subscription will provide the same functionalities as before, targeting organizations with 300 employees or fewer. This move, revealed at the Ignite conference, responds to small business requests for budget-friendly options.
Although interest in M365 Copilot among IT leaders is high, actual adoption rates remain low, hampered by challenges in data governance and perceived ROI. Many companies are still piloting the service with limited rollout, highlighting the need for cost reductions to alleviate financial pressures. Additionally, MS offers Teams Premium at $10 per user per month, enhancing collaboration with AI features. M365 customers can also use Copilot Chat for free, which provides a web-based interactive interface but with limited administrative functionalities.
Upcoming features include enhanced content recognition in Outlook, allowing for a more comprehensive view of email threads and calendar events, projected to enter preview in March 2026. The Copilot Chat’s agent mode, enabling content drafting directly in the interface, is also set to be available in early 2026, promising more direct integration of AI assistance into user workflows.
