LevelBlue, a Dallas-based managed security services provider, has announced its plan to acquire Cybereason, a Boston-based cybersecurity company known for its extended detection and response platforms. This acquisition is strategic for LevelBlue as it seeks to enhance its managed detection and response capabilities by incorporating Cybereason’s expertise in threat intelligence and digital forensics. Bob McCullen, CEO of LevelBlue, highlighted the deal as a significant move in their mission to become a comprehensive cybersecurity partner.

The acquisition is part of a larger trend in the cybersecurity industry, where companies are consolidating to offer a wider range of services. Cybereason, which faced significant challenges and layoffs in recent years, had previously reached a high valuation and aimed for an IPO. However, market changes and pressures from investors led to a decline in its fortunes. Following this acquisition, SoftBank and Liberty Strategic Capital will invest in LevelBlue, with former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin joining LevelBlue’s board of directors, further indicating the deal’s significance in the current cybersecurity landscape.
