The Lighthouse phishing kit, which facilitated SMS scams like requests for unpaid road tolls, has reportedly been disrupted following Google’s recent lawsuit against its creators. Google announced that Lighthouse operations have ceased, a significant development in the fight against SMS phishing, or ‘smishing.’ Halimah DeLaine Prado, Google’s general counsel, emphasized the importance of holding scammers accountable.

Additionally, threat intelligence experts noted that communications among the syndicate, referred to as the Smishing Triad, have been effectively eliminated from Telegram. While some associated websites may still be active, the shutdown represents a crucial step in applying pressure on smishing actors, particularly those believed to operate from China. Researchers confirmed that certain domains linked to Lighthouse’s infrastructure are no longer functioning, highlighting the tangible effects of Google’s legal actions. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York against 25 unnamed individuals for various violations related to their phishing activities.
