Gartner’s survey of 360 IT application leaders across North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region shows that while 75% of respondents have implemented or are in the process of deploying AI agents, significant worries persist. The lack of governance and trust in AI vendor security measures appear to be the primary barriers to fully realizing the potential of AI agents. Notably, only 19% of respondents express high trust in the hallucination prevention capabilities of AI vendors, indicating a widespread concern about the risks posed by these technologies.

Concerns extend to potential vulnerabilities; 74% of those surveyed believe AI agents could introduce new attack vectors within their organizations. Furthermore, only 13% of respondents reported having the appropriate governance structures in place to manage these technologies effectively. Despite high expectations for AI agent impact, with 26% expecting revolutionary changes in productivity, many still regard the innovation effects as uncertain, underscoring the necessity for clearer goals and metrics within organizations.
