The report from Fortinet details the severe cybersecurity skills gap experienced globally, notably impacting 1,850 IT and security decision-makers across 29 countries, including South Korea. It highlights a significant adoption of AI as companies seek to bolster their security strengths, while simultaneously acknowledging the shortage of AI professionals, which presents new security concerns. The report also points out the lack of cybersecurity awareness and education as key factors contributing to incidents.

Executive attention towards cybersecurity has increased, but understanding of AI-related risks remains low, with only 49% of respondents confident in their management’s comprehension of these risks. Cybersecurity incidents have escalated, with 86% of companies reporting breaches in 2024, compared to lower percentages in 2021. The report underscores the urgent need for improved training and certification access within organizations to address the ongoing talent and technology gap. Fortinet emphasizes enhancing security awareness, adopting advanced technologies, and ensuring robust training as critical strategies to combat the skills deficit and maintain cybersecurity efficacy.
