Bugcrowd, known for its bug bounty and vulnerability disclosure work, has acquired Mayhem Security, which specializes in AI-powered offensive security. The acquisition is intended to address the growing complexities of cybersecurity risks as organizations rapidly develop software and utilize numerous APIs. By integrating AI with the insights of skilled security professionals, Bugcrowd seeks to implement continuous testing throughout the software lifecycle, enhancing proactive defense against vulnerabilities.

Mayhem Security, founded by Carnegie Mellon graduates David Brumley and Thanassis Avgerinos, is renowned for its autonomous system that won the DARPA Cyber Grand Challenge in 2016. This technology focuses on continuous penetration testing and dynamic software profiling. Following the acquisition, Mayhem’s team will join Bugcrowd, with Brumley becoming Chief AI and Science Officer. Both companies aim to transform cybersecurity approaches by merging automation technology with the hacker community’s expertise, effectively redefining modern security testing and tackling zero-day vulnerabilities.
