Source: Cyber Security News

On October 28, 2025, AWS experienced significant operational difficulties in its US-EAST-1 region, primarily affecting EC2 instance launches and various services reliant on Elastic Container Service (ECS). Delays reportedly began earlier in the day and soon impacted numerous offerings, highlighting vulnerabilities within AWS’s infrastructure. Customers faced challenges such as unexpected container instance disconnections and prolonged task execution delays in services like EMR and EKS.

AWS initiated recovery measures by throttling API calls and advised affected users via the Personal Health Dashboard. Despite an initial stabilization of EC2 launches by late afternoon, ECS encountered slower recovery processes. By the evening, AWS reported significant progress, with recovery expected to complete in a few hours. The situation was finally resolved by 10:43 PM PDT, restoring normal operations across all services. AWS acknowledged persisting challenges from internal service interdependencies and recommended strategies to enhance resilience against future outages.
