During his keynote at the APEC CEO Summit, AWS CEO Matt Garman highlighted the transformative potential of AI agents in business operations, suggesting they could double productivity beyond current generative AI efficiencies. Garman outlined Amazon’s commitment to expanding cloud infrastructure, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.
The investment of over $40 billion aims to enhance cloud capabilities and support a widespread adoption of AI agents. He cited the example of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group leveraging AWS-based AI agents, which led to a tenfold increase in potential clients and a 30% boost in transaction success rates. Such successes underscore the effectiveness of AI agents across various industries including finance and telecommunications.
Garman also announced a planned 5 billion dollar investment in South Korea by 2031 to expand data center infrastructure, supporting the country’s digital transformation and reinforcing AWS’s dedication to enhancing South Korea’s technological future. This initiative includes the development of the Ulsan AI Zone in collaboration with SK Group, aiming to contribute to South Korea’s global prominence in AI.
