Kindle Translate’ enables authors using Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) to translate their e-books into various languages, thereby aiding their entry into new markets. Currently, less than 5% of books on Amazon are available in multiple languages, and this service hopes to boost that figure by allowing independent authors to reach a broader audience and enhance their income.
The service currently supports translations between English and Spanish and from German to English, operating initially for select KDP authors. Authors can manage the translation process via the KDP portal, with translations expected to be completed within days and subjected to an accuracy verification process before publication. Amazon believes that this service aligns with KDP’s goal of enhancing global readership accessibility and revenue generation for independent authors. Furthermore, ‘Kindle Translate’ will not incur extra costs for authors, allowing them to present their work in new languages on a global scale. As more languages are added, the service aims to provide even greater diversity in available literature.
