Microsoft Teams New Security Feature

Microsoft has launched a new security feature in Teams Premium, known as ‘Prevent screen capture’, designed to prevent unauthorized screenshots and recordings during meetings. This feature aims to address security concerns in industries like finance, healthcare, and legal sectors, where sensitive information is often shared. Currently rolling out globally until late November 2025, this enhancement was previously noted under Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 490561 and saw a timeline update on November 12, 2025, to accommodate further testing.

The feature operates by obscuring the meeting window during screen capture attempts on Windows desktops and fully blocking these actions on Android devices. Unsupported platforms shift attendees to audio-only mode, facilitating security but potentially disrupting user experience. Admins can easily activate this feature within the Teams interface alongside other safety measures. However, compliance issues associated with GDPR laws regarding users’ data rights could arise, prompting organizations to prepare adequately by educating team members and verifying device compatibility.

While the tool effectively prevents digital captures, it does not hinder physical photography, signaling the importance of a multi-layered security approach. This initiative highlights Microsoft’s effort to enhance cybersecurity measures in virtual collaboration settings, giving organizations an additional buffer against cyber threats during sensitive discussions.
