Between November 10 and 14, 2025, a significant operation led by Europol dismantled a vast network of cybercrime tools, referred to as Operation Endgame. This extensive effort targeted three infamous malware families: the Rhadamanthys infostealer, the Remote Access Trojan (RAT) VenomRAT, and the Elysium botnet, which have played critical roles in global ransomware attacks and data theft incidents, affecting thousands of victims and resulting in millions of euros in stolen credentials and cryptocurrency.
The multinational collaboration included authorities from 11 countries, along with the support of private cybersecurity firms, showcasing the importance of global teamwork in combating cybercrime. Notably, Rhadamanthys’s capabilities provided access to over 100,000 cryptocurrency wallets, emphasizing the scale of the threats involved. The stealthiness of these malware types means many victims remain unaware of their infections, highlighting the ongoing risks that demand continuous monitoring and vigilance from both individuals and security experts.
As criminals evolve their tactics, Operation Endgame illustrates that the fight against ransomware and cybercrime is far from over, and parties involved in these efforts are encouraged to remain alert to protect against residual threats. Europol has provided resources to help individuals check for infections, underlining a proactive approach in cybersecurity vigilance.
