Check Point Research has unveiled the YouTube Ghost Network, a sophisticated assembly of malicious accounts that exploit YouTube’s platform to distribute malware. They identified over 3,000 malicious videos primarily targeting game hacks and software piracy. Since its inception in 2021, the network’s malicious output has escalated markedly, with a threefold increase in 2025 alone, making it a significant cybersecurity issue.
Operating through compromised accounts, the Ghost Network manipulates platform features to foster trust and engage users. Malicious videos receive positive comments and community posts that further deceive viewers into downloading infected software. The malware distributed here mainly consists of infostealers, highlighting the risks to user credentials and personal data. Check Point’s investigation sheds light on these evolving tactics, emphasizing the need for enhanced user awareness and collaborative cybersecurity efforts.
