AWS introduced the EC2 C8i and C8i-flex instances featuring custom Intel Xeon 6 processors with sustained 3.9 GHz turbo frequency, optimized for compute-intensive workloads. These instances provide up to 15 percent better price-performance and 2.5 times more memory bandwidth than the earlier C7i generation, making them suitable for workloads including web servers, caching, video encoding, and distributed analytics.

The instances utilize sixth-generation AWS Nitro Cards, enabling up to two times more network and EBS bandwidth compared to previous generations. They also support customizable bandwidth allocation between network and EBS to optimize database and query performance. C8i instances offer a wide range of sizes supporting up to 384 vCPUs and 768 GiB memory, including bare-metal options for dedicated hardware access.

C8i-flex is a cost-effective variant offering 5 percent better price performance at 5 percent lower price, designed for workloads that don’t fully utilize compute resources but still require the latest generation’s performance. These new instances are available now in several AWS Regions and support purchase options including On-Demand, Savings Plan, Spot, Dedicated Instances, and Dedicated Hosts. The launch introduces enhanced flexibility and performance for customers running CPU-intensive workloads on AWS.
